Buttermilk Scones with Dried Cranberries
Ingredients: Scones
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) chilled margarine, cut into 6-8 pieces
3/4 cup dried cranberries
1 teaspoon grated orange zest (outside/brighter orange of an orange shredded with zester)
1 cup buttermilk
Ingredients: Glaze
1 tablespoon heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
How To
1- Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Lightly grease a baking sheet and set aside.
2- Stir flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
in a large bowl.
3- Add the margarine and beat with an electric mixer until
well blended.
4- Add dried cranberries and orange zest.
5- Pour in the buttermilk and mix until blended.
6- Gather the dough into a ball and divide in half.
7- Roll into 2 circles, approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick, on a lightly floured board.
8- Cut each circle into 8 wedges.
GLAZE: In a small bowl, combine cream, cinnamon, and sugar.
Set aside.
9- Bake the scones on the prepared baking sheet for 12 to
15 minutes, or until they are golden.
10- Remove scones from over and brush with the glaze.
Makes 16 scones.
